My son and I were driving home from an orthodontist appointment the other day when we spotted an enormous plane in the air. We didn’t know it at the time, but what we saw was this old World War II B-17G plane. It was flying into town for a tour!
So exciting! We decided we really had to go see it in person, so we did. We not only got to walk all around the plane, we got to go inside, too. This is how history should be studied. Not through boring textbooks but through inspiring field trips and activities! My son will never forget the B-17 plane.
Seeing a piece of history like this really makes you want to know more. My son is so interested in World War II now, especially knowing that his great grandfather fought in the war. We are going to start our fall school year off with this WWII unit study by Homeschool in the Woods. Looking forward to it!
Below is a video of the B-17G that we got to see. And then just after we saw this plane, this news clip came out about a World War II vet who was able to meet the man he saved from the holocaust. Beautiful!
