I’m a girl who lives in t-shirts and jeans.
And sweats.
And PJ’s….but let’s not go there.
I’m not into trends or being stylish. Ain’t nobody got time, or money, for that, right?!
But I have heard so many good things about Stitch Fix lately that I really wanted to do something fun for myself and give it a try.
So I did.
When I signed up for Stitch Fix I was asked to fill out a style profile. That part was fun. I gave them all my sizing info as well as a peek into my style likes and dislikes.
A Stitch Fix box costs $20 and contains a total of five items. If you choose to keep any item from your box, the $20 fee is applied to that item.
You have three business days to decide if you want to keep anything. Stitch Fix provides a postage paid envelope to ship back what you do not want to keep.
After you fill out your style profile, you can write a note to your stylist.
I had a few really easy requests. Hehee! Not.
I requested light pastel colored items that were fitted and yet tunic length. I also really wanted easy wash items. I did not want anything that was hand wash. I also didn’t want any of that “wash cold on gentle cycle, inside out, and lay flat to dry “nonsense. That was about it. Basically if you can find something that is fitted, long enough, and has easy washing instructions, I’ll be super happy.
Stitch Fix
So here’s what I received.
It was packaged up so nicely I didn’t want to touch it! And the stack of clothing items looked so pretty together!
Here’s the first blouse.
Liked:
- Fit – It fit nicely but that’s about all I liked about it.
Disliked:
- Bold Design – It’s just not “me”.
- Cut – I don’t like that it’s sleeveless. Nobody needs to be flashed by my pasty white arms up there. And the drapey front just felt sloppy.
- Washing Instructions – machine wash cold, delicate, hang dry
Result: Sent Back.
Liked:
- Color – love the light blueish turquoise
- Length – good length on me
Disliked:
- Cut – The V-neck was kind of off to the side. It wasn’t centered and no amount of playing with it changed that. My body could be crooked, though. Who knows.
- Fabric – way too thin. I could see my bellybutton through it. That’s not okay.
- Washing Instructions – machine wash cold, delicate, hang dry
Result: Sent back
Liked:
- Color -my closet is full of white, grey, and black. So this little number would be right at home!
- Length – nice and long.
Disliked:
- Hand wash – No! No! No!
- Design – The stripes weren’t flattering and honestly the whole dolman cut looks a little weird to me.
Result: Sent Back
Liked:
- Color – love the blush color
- Length – it reaches my wrists on my long, long arms. How wonderful!!
Disliked:
- Washing Instructions – Hand wash, again. I don’t do hand wash.
- Price – a bit too pricey at $68.
- Stripes – I just realized today that I don’t like stripes.
Result: Sent Back
I have to say, when I first opened my box I thought, “Oh my, I’ll certainly be sending those jeans back.”
I’m really picky about my jeans. The pockets need to be sewn on just right, not too far apart. The pockets need to have stitching on them to help my rear appear less flat than it really is. The jeans need to reach my ankles. I won’t wear skinny jeans. And I won’t wear “mom jeans”. I have more requirements but I won’t bore you with the more mundane details.
So anyway, guess what. These jeans made the cut!
Liked:
- Length – it was delicious. I love jeans that were actually made for girls with long legs.
- Color – love the dark denim
- Cut – it’s not the boot cut I normally go for but the straight leg was okay.
- Movement – These jeans move with you. They feel like sweats, only they’re not. Awesomeness.
Disliked:
- Price – Yeah, I’m not saying how much they were because then my husband would find out and we wouldn’t want that now would we. Hehee!
Result: Kept
Even though, these jeans didn’t fit all of my jean requirements, like stitching on the pockets, I liked them well enough that they passed.
Oh, and you know, I didn’t think to take a picture of the jeans because I was wearing them in all the other photos.
Thank you to my little boy who took all the pictures of me.
Final Thoughts
I’m not sure if I would do another Stitch Fix box or not. While it was really exciting to get a box of clothes hand selected just for me, I think I can probably do just as well if not better on my own.
Dislikes
I did not like that they ignored my request for easy wash items. I really stressed that fact. Because I’m a mom, my clothes get dirty. I’m doing dishes, cooking, and cleaning and that means I need clothes that can handle a good hot water machine wash cycle with some stain remover in there to boot. And all of my clothes get thrown in the dryer simply because I can not remember to pull out clothes that need to lay flat to dry.
I do not like that I only had 3 days to return the items or I’d be charged for the entire box. My box arrived on a Monday and I didn’t even get the mail that day. So when I did get my mail, Tuesday afternoon, I just had that day to make my decisions before boxing it all up and shipping it off on Wednesday morning. Too stressful for me!

I do like the variety that Stitch Fix brings. It stretches me and puts me a little out of my comfort zone which is probably a good thing. I could stand to break out of my jeans and t-shirt routine.
I love getting a box of goodies in the mail!
The stylist did get my sizing right and did pay attention to my request for pastels. So that was nice.
Have you ever tried Stitch Fix and if so, what were your results?
If you want to try Stitch Fix out for yourself, if you use any of the links in my post I’ll receive a lovely $25 dollar credit. This review wasn’t about the credit, though. I wanted to share about my first box because it was too fun to keep it to myself. xoxo

oh, how fun! I’ve always wanted to try but have been to scared to! Who knows what kind of shape they’d be in after being in my house :) I love the blush colored sweater! that color looks great one you!
